Working in a school or a company is simply making children jump through hoops and reach goals. There is no adjustment to the materials or way of delivery. Every student is different, and there isn't just a single formula for all. Most schools and companies in Hong Kong fail to identify this point which is emphasized and addressed in the UK.
I enjoy bringing the best of both worlds and letting children experience the fun side of learning which Hong Kong lacks. Connecting different knowledge together and using them in other areas, not just exam papers. The fun side of tutoring is that I am not just tutoring a child, but also the parents too. However, these parents will soon be friends.
Knowing my students, sometimes even better than their own parents. Connecting with the student and knowing what they lack. Helping them find their own learning methods and develop them. No student has the exact same learning ability and there is no correct method. The only method is their own method developed over time with positive guidance. I do not just educate their minds, I educate their hearts too.
Learning is a journey and one should enjoy every moment of it. Learning is also a process of self-reflection and knowing yourself better. To be able to embark on such a journey together with a student through the highs and lows is an extraordinary privilege one should cherish.

I am Teacher Derek and I grew up in England. Although growing up in the UK, I was raised using the HK Education system and experienced the best of both worlds. Starting out at the age of sixteen under a UK government programme, I became a part-time class teacher for three years at a struggling primary school.
After pursuing my dream of finding a cure for cancer during my university days, I found that teaching was my true calling.
On returning to Hong Kong, I started out as a Native English Teacher, teaching in both primary and secondary schools. Then moving on to the private sector of education, teaching courses such as Trinity GESE, Cambridge YLE, Phonics, Drama, Speech Festival, RWI, etc. Soon these all evolved into a life journey with students, from the age of 2, building up their knowledge, choosing the right primary school, preparing for interviews, having success in primary school and selecting the best secondary school achievable and my journey ends with them when they finally complete their DSE.
