What I enjoy most about tutoring is the impact I have on students. I have the chance to support students in doing their best work and inspire them to succeed on an academic and personal level. With all the interactions I've had with students, I've come to understand that not every student learns in the same way; some may be more passionate about their academics, while others may not be at all interested in them. The role of a tutor is rewarding because it makes me happy to observe how a student behaves once they have mastered a difficult subject since it boosts their academic self-confidence and shows how determined they are to succeed, to which I also had a contribution. I also love tutoring because it has allowed me to learn and experience things I never would have without being a tutor. Regarding the student experience and even interactions with other individuals in general, I have learned new perspectives and acquired new ideologies. I learn as much from my students as they learn from me.

One of my strengths as a tutor is that I have good communication and listening skills, which enable me to identify the students' misconceptions and mistakes and adapt the learning strategy in accordance with their needs because I am aware that not every student learns in the same way. I also believe I am patient with students because I am conscious that everyone progresses at a different rate and that some students may need more time to fully understand a concept. Instead of pushing the student to finish quickly, I take my time guiding them through their learning process and ensuring that they understood everything before moving on to a new topic. Sometimes I also connect the curriculum with real-life scenarios or in simpler ways if it helps the student understand better. Last but not least, I don't teach exclusively in class. If students occasionally have questions outside of class, I am always accommodating and will respond when I have the time. This, in my opinion, is the most crucial element since it actually makes the students genuinely believe I am there to support them in their academic endeavors.

I believe a competent tutor should establish a close bond with their students. Tutors play a distinct role from teachers and parents because they build great relationships with their students, which help students feel more connected to them and create a positive learning atmosphere. By assigning customized exercises, using Kahoot or other games, or by tailoring the learning experience to the student's interests, a skilled tutor will help them retain the information they are learning. This makes it simple for children to understand the material, and because it is personalized for them, it differs from the way they are taught at school. To preserve everything in the student's learning process, it is important to keep strong communication with the student's parents and to synchronize their goals. A qualified tutor will also assist in identifying a student's preferred learning methods. The manner that children are taught at school is the same, and if a student cannot grasp a concept the same way that others do while using the same learning method, they may lose faith. A good tutor should use a variety of teaching techniques and gauge which ones the students like; this raises their self-confidence, encourages academic self-belief, and develops their study skills. Overall, a good tutor should show leadership qualities and make sure the student is learning in a systematic manner while also having fun. Students will be more motivated in learning, and they will look forward to your tutorial sessions if you develop a great relationship with them. The important thing is demonstrating to students that they have someone there to support them as they navigate their educational journeys and that they can do anything if they set their minds to it.

關於我自己

I am currently a student, studying Biological Science at HKU. I chose this field because it is something I always had an interest in, and it aligns with the career path I see myself in a few years later. Although being a tutor is different from this field, I always had passionate about learning and teaching. I have always wanted to be a tutor, but due to my DSE results (all pass) but still not high enough, it was hard for me to achieve this goal. I've worked hard in my education and now I'm ready to apply my knowledge into practice. While I don't have long work experience, I've had a lot of exposure to it. I am dedicated to fight for what I want and I always thought that experiences are more relevant because the more broad your experiences are, the higher knowledge you attain from them. I believe that I can be a good role model for students because I am the evidence that if you work hard, you will be able to achieve your goals and end up at the same destination as others, regardless of the time you reach there.

I started tutoring my brothers and relatives when I was still in high school. I've learned to adapt to new teaching methods for my brother because he has special needs so he can understand the material in his own way. But in April 2022, I started working as a private tutor to other students. I taught Chinese to primary non-Chinese students and English to Secondary 1-3 students at the Target Education Centre. I discovered that I loved dealing with students and assisting them in their learning process throughout this period. However, because of COVID-19, the classes were held online, yet despite the setting, I made every effort to improve their learning abilities. Additionally, I visited schools to teach P1-P6 STEM subjects for one day as part of the event organized by the school and the centre. At Ananta Learning Centre, I first help pupils with their assignments. After they have accomplished their homework, I move on to teaching them the syllabuses they don't grasp before giving them exercises to gauge how much they have learned. I favored one-on-one interactions with students because I could fully invest my time and presence in their learning, which would enhance student performance and grades.
